About Patterson Park CDC
Our Mission
The Patterson Park Community Development Corporation (PPCDC) is a progressive nonprofit organization dedicated to revitalizing one of Baltimore’s precious neighborhood legacies. Our goal is to restore the once-vibrant Patterson Park community to the fullness of its past glory through strategic investments into the neighborhood, including distressed properties and the historic park grounds. Founded in 1996, the PPCDC has invested more than $60 million into the neighborhood through a variety of innovative urban renewal programs, including park restoration projects, community-building events, and hundreds of home rehabilitations. Through hard work and a fearless commitment to a bold idea, the PPCDC has created a revitalization movement that will serve as the model for future urban transition projects throughout the nation.
  • Invested over $70,000,000 directly into Patterson Park neighborhoods and spurred tens of millions of other private investment
  • Funded over $1,000,000 directly to the community from park events to tree plantings to financial support and fundraising for other non-profits
  • Grew from a staff of two in 1996 to a staff of 28 in 2006, a budget of under $200,000 to over $2,500,000, employing scores of skilled and unskilled construction people
  • Developed 170 units of affordable rental housing, providing decent housing for low income residents, many of them refugees and immigrants
  • Purchased almost 500 properties, preventing their acquisition by unscrupulous, uncaring, absentee owners
  • Seen prices rise from barely $50,000 in 1996 to over $250,000 in 2006, dramatically increasing the wealth of neighborhood residents and the city’s tax base

Our mission is to develop and implement strategies that attract, retain, and support good neighbors in the Patterson Park community.

Our underlying philosophy focuses on the importance of local contro to a community's destiny. As such, our cornerstone programs begin with the acquisition of local housing stock — to prevent it from falling into the hands of often-destructive absentee landlords. The houses we buy are then developed into quality properties to rent and own.

Our ultimate goal is to create a community that people seek out -- a community in which to live, work, and play.

"What we're doing is important because it is proving that poor, inner city neighborhoods don't have to fail, that we can bring our city back, block by block and neighborhood by neighborhood."
